Gear Up For Suns Basketball

Amare Stoudemire Out For 8 Weeks

February 20th, 2009 at 9:56 am
Phoenix Suns v Denver Nuggets

azcentral.com is reporting that Amare Stoudemire is out for the remainder of the regular season after having surgery this morning to repair a partially detached retina in his right eye.

“Stoudemire could return to physical activity in eight weeks but a team press release said that would “depend upon his healing process” and that his surgeon, Dr. Pravin Dugel of Spectra Eye Institute in Sun City, stressed that recoveries are on a case-by-case basis. The eight-week mark is two days after the Suns’ regular-season finale.”

This is a devastating blow to the Phoenix Suns who have just recently began going back to their old style of Run and Gun on offense in which Amare is the featured piece.

Thankfully, the Suns did not pull the trigger on the Shaquille O’Neal to Cleveland trade yesterday, which at least keeps one solid low-post player. The Suns are going to need Steve Nash and Jason Richardson to step up and score more points as well in Amare’s absence. The main problem is who can fill the void at an already thin Power Foward position? Expect the Suns to utilize Louis Amundson and Robin Lopez more frequently and possibly Courtney Simms as well.

The Suns just can’t catch a break this season can they?

    Adam,
The game this evening vs the Hornets was entertaining and exciting. I didn't catch the news about Amare until we arrived at the stadium. The Suns hardly missed a beat and except for a dry spell in the third quarter they dominated the game with........ you guessed it, defense. Barbosa and Barnes combined for over ten steals and the team scored over thirty points on turnovers.
It was a terrific game with lots of exiting play by both teams. Kevin Durrant is or soon will be a star in the leaue. He has a beautiful shot and a soft touch and he has learned how to get his shot. Jason Richardson played him tough and Durrant still scored 35 points.
The Suns will play the Celtics this weekend and they have a good chance of winning. The Celts are without Kevin Garnett and they are a bit behind their winning pace of last year.
What can be said about the loss of Amare Stoudemire? I think that the team will make the playoffs but getting into the top four looks out of the question.

That's a tough loss, but if they can get into the playoffs, get him back and run this up tempo offense it will be entertaing to say the least.

    Shaqtus....I like that!

    That sucks.

    Hard.

They definitely still have the talent to contend for a playoff spot with Nash, Richardson, Shaqtus or whatever he's calling himself now, and co.
