azcentral.com is reporting that Amare Stoudemire is out for the remainder of the regular season after having surgery this morning to repair a partially detached retina in his right eye.
“Stoudemire could return to physical activity in eight weeks but a team press release said that would “depend upon his healing process” and that his surgeon, Dr. Pravin Dugel of Spectra Eye Institute in Sun City, stressed that recoveries are on a case-by-case basis. The eight-week mark is two days after the Suns’ regular-season finale.”
This is a devastating blow to the Phoenix Suns who have just recently began going back to their old style of Run and Gun on offense in which Amare is the featured piece.
Thankfully, the Suns did not pull the trigger on the Shaquille O’Neal to Cleveland trade yesterday, which at least keeps one solid low-post player. The Suns are going to need Steve Nash and Jason Richardson to step up and score more points as well in Amare’s absence. The main problem is who can fill the void at an already thin Power Foward position? Expect the Suns to utilize Louis Amundson and Robin Lopez more frequently and possibly Courtney Simms as well.
The Suns just can’t catch a break this season can they?
