Gear Up For Suns Basketball

Taylor Griffin Signs

The Phoenix Suns have signed second-round pick Taylor Griffin to a contract. Griffin, a 6-foot-7  Forward, signed a deal with the Suns that includes a partial guarantee. Should Griffin remain on the roster in January, his $457,588 contract for the season becomes guaranteed

Taylor Griffin is the older brother of first overall pick Blake Griffin, averaged 9.6 points and 5.8 rebounds as a senior at Oklahoma. In addition, he averaged 6.2 points, 3 rebounds and 1 steal in five games for the Suns in the Las Vegas Summer League.

This signing basically served final notice to Sasha Pavlovic that he will not be on the Phoenix Suns next season. Personally, I think the Suns could have used his 3-point shooting ability; but he is simply to costly for a team that is already loaded with high salaries. Griffin, will likely be spending his time in the NBDL or at the end of the bench with Stoudemire, Amundson, and Clark in front of him in the rotation at Power/Small Forward.

    Adam,
This is a sad sign of the times. All teams will have a Taylor Griffin or two or even three sitting on the end of the bench. Perhaps the NBA should lower the number of roster players required to 11 or 12. The salary cap/tax is working to get rid of veteran players who are making too much money. They are being replaced by the Taylor Griffins.
On the positive side, the Tax will impose fiscal restraint on NBA management. Could this possibly lead to lower ticket prices? Nah.
I'd like to see you do a blog on the effect of the Lux. Tax on NBA salaries.
  • Den,
Excellent idea...I will definitely do that.
