Gear Up For Suns Basketball

A Few Notes To Jerryd Bayless

December 18th, 2009 at 9:37 am

After last night’s 105-102 loss to the Portland Trailblazers, the Phoenix Suns have now lost 17 consecutive games that have been broadcasted on TNT. Even worse, is the Suns have dropped 6 consecutive games on the road. However, as we all know, the Suns schedule was front-loaded with road games and considering they are the only team in the NBA undefeated at home; only spells good news for the Suns the rest of the way. If the season ended today, the Suns would be the 4 seed in the Western Conference matched up with the Utah Jazz. Not a bad start for a team many had written off this year.

Surrendering a 11 point lead in the 4th quarter against Portland was brutal to watch, however what was even more embarrassing was the actions of Jerryd Bayless. Bayless, who played one year for the University of Arizona Wildcats scored 29 points on 9-15 shooting from the field. Aside from my natural dislike of U of A, being an Arizona State alumni myself, Bayless’s actions made me laugh at him. Every time he made a shot he was pumping his fists like he had won the NBA title. This is likely because he was surprised his shots actually went in considering the trajectory was reminiscent of a Nolan Ryan fastball. Anyway, I had a few notes to share with Jerryd Bayless in general:

1. If you grow a goatee, at least make sure it connects together. He looks like a 14 year old that has never shaved before.

2. You are not allowed to talk trash to an opposing coach unless you have actually accomplished something in the league. No, averaging 5.1 points per game on 41% shooting does not qualify.

3. “Act like you have been there before” No one likes being shown up in sports, it is nice to be excited but too much alienates the competitors. If Bayless continues to act the way he did during last night’s game he will get hammered by defenders every time he comes in the lane.

The Suns next face the Wizards at home on Saturday night. Hopefully, the Suns will have Jason Richardson available as he has been nursing a sore shooting hand the forced Alvin Gentry to start Goran Dragic at Shooting Guard against Portland. It was evident down the stretch that not having go to scorers of Leandro Barbosa and Jason Richardson hurt the Suns.  The good news in the Suns should be at full strength again after Christmas and Amare Stoudemire is getting his explosiveness and ferocity back. This in conjunction with a heavily home laden schedule is great news for the Suns!

I knew you would be wrong, I just didn't know you would be this wrong. I guess you owe me lunch.

  • I wouldn't jump to conclusions so fast Kevin. Since the Suns game Bayless has average 12.8 points per game and 3.8 assists...which I concede is decent. However, he has shot 20-61 in those 5 games (32.7%). I would have to say that is pretty bad.

First of all, he is friends with the Suns coach. They have been trying to get Jerryd since he was drefted...see Steve Kerr highlights in college and let me know what team he was playing for. There is a reason Portland has refused to trade him. He can shoot also, I grew up with him and know that he can shoot it. He is shooting over 50% on the season. As for U of A, he averages over 4 assists a game. I agree that is not a good point guard as of now, but he is improving and when you combine that with the fact that he can score in this league, there is no reason why he can't be good. He needs consistent minutes but once that comes, you are going to see him play well. I think your just mad that U of A made it tourney and ASU did not that year that Jerryd played. In 3 years, if Jerryd is not playing well, you come find me and I'll buy you lunch. Otherwise, give the kid a break. He was excited and I don't blame him.
  • Kevin,
Yeah it must be really frustrating for a 21 year old to make millions of dollars. Being excited is one thing, but talking trash to a coach is another. A player actually needs to perform at a high level for a considerable amount of time before doing that and it is still classless. Like I said, with a line drive shot he will never be a consistent NBA shooter. That could be seen by his "T-Rex" like effort tonight (3-13). The fact of the matter is he is a one-dimensonal player, a scorer that is all. Those type of players end up doing little in the NBA (see Adam Morrison). At U of A, they were only 19-13 and 8-10 in the Pac-10 and they should not have not been in the NCAA tourney. His scoring average of 19.7 was solid but hardly any assists, hence why he is the 4th PG on Portland.

Adam, you retard! How can you not cheer for a guy like that. He plays hard, he works at his game. Look I don't like ASU but I don't sit there and go how do you root for James Harden when he holds up 3 fingers after making a 3. If you knew anything about basketball and how frustrating it has been for Jerryd you would understand why he was so excited. Against his home town team, against his idol Steve Nash, and on national television...he deserved this and he just wants to win. I don't even know why I am responding to you, but if you could just sit there and keep your mouth shut, that would be ideal. He's like the t-rex from Jurrasic Park, he's coming and there is nothing you can do about it.
